Marine Art by Piermont Artist Lawrence Forbes-Wolfe at Piermont Library.
Feb and March 2025.
Piermonter Lawrence Forbes-Wolfe has been creating gorgeous paintings of sailing ships at sea since the early 70s. He became interested in marine art and began painting old sailing ships while living in London. Forbes-Wolfe paints with oils on wooden panels. He uses the grain of the wood to evoke the skies and clouds in the backgrounds of his paintings. You can almost hear the wind blowing and waves crashing when you look at his artwork. Lawrence has exhibited his paintings in galleries and shows up and down the East Coast.
Earlier in life, Forbes-Wolfe traveled widely and worked as an animator in California. He now lives in Piermont with his wife Diana. Lawrence uses Forbes-Wolfe as his artist name, although he now uses Forbes only as his legal name. In addition to his ship paintings, Lawrence creates mono prints, other creative pieces and hand-painted wooden cremation boxes.
